Apartments Reopen After Asbestos Problems

The former Highline Terrace apartments in Denver are finally reopening after an ongoing asbestos problem forced tenants to move in June 2006.

Tenants are slowly moving into the apartments that have been the cause of a lengthy trial, but many are still hesitant to live in a complex even after asbestos removal.
Asbestos Causes Legal Trouble

When more than 340 apartments were evacuated last year after asbestos was found throughout the building, residents had to suddenly move.

The residents living at the apartments not only had to find a new place to live, but many were asked to leave their belongings, including their clothing and furniture, behind since they contained asbestos fibers.

The owner of the complex, Bascom, is still trying to settle the many lawsuits that have been brought against him since the evacuation.

New Apartments Built

After crews were finally able to contain the asbestos, new apartments began being built with new carpets, paint, and appliances.

Despite the reconstruction, Bascom is still having trouble renting the apartments since the asbestos scare.
